Document D1 (extract)

Payment Methods

This page describes the methods you may use to pay your Membership and Subscription Fees. This is an extract from document D1 (Membership Fees and Benefits). You can download the whole of D1 as a PDF, although the web page you are reading now contains some further items of small print that may not all be in the PDF.

Preferred Payment Methods go to top of page
Online payments by credit card or bank transfer
You may pay online using facilities provided by PayPal. (Follow the links on the home page to take you to the appropriate page). You can use a range of credit and debit cards and you can also transfer money from your bank account.

  Online registration of cheque payments
Even if you wish to pay by cheque, it helps our administration if you can complete the online form. (Follow the links home page to take you to the appropriate page). You will receive an email confirmation and a reference number to write on the back of your cheque, which you can then post to us. For renewals, no further paperwork is required.

  Postal payments by cheque
Please download a form by following the links on the home page or at the top of this page to take you to the appropriate place. Membership/Subscription cheques should be made payable to British Caving Association and posted to BCA Membership Office, The Old Methodist Chapel, Great Hucklow, BUXTON, SK17 8RG. If you are already a BCA member, please write your membership number on the back of your cheque. Cheques for back-issues of publications should be made payable to British Cave Research Association and sent to BCRA at the above address. If you live outside the UK please read the Small Print below.

Cheques can only be accepted if they are in UK currency and drawn on a UK bank. For overseas customers this is usually possible if your bank has a branch in London, but you might be charged a large fee for obtaining such cheque from your bank. We cannot accept any payment where a transaction fee has to be paid by the recipient. You should verify this before you send payment because, if our membership office cannot accept it, you may have wasted your transaction fee.

  Pro-forma Invoices
If you are an organisation that requires a pro-forma invoice, please complete an online order form and treat your confirmation email as the pro-forma invoice. If this is not possible, please read the Small Print below.

If you are an organisation that requires a pro-forma invoice and you cannot treat the confirmation email from your online order as such, you should either a) contact us by email, quoting the online order reference number and we will send a pro-forma invoice to you or b) complete a paper order form and accompany this by a letter clearly requesting that a pro-forma invoice be issued.

  Postal payments by Credit Card
This facility has been withdrawn in favour of online payments. Neither BCRA nor BCA can now accept postal or telephone payments by credit card. If you wish to use a credit card, please consider using the online facilities at PayPal. The reasons for withdrawing this facility are because the fees charged to us are too high and the new data security requirements are too onerous for a small volunteer-based organisation.

  BACS and International Bank Transfer
Organisations that wish to pay by BACS should contact us for details. Please quote your membership or reference number on any transfer. If you want to transfer money using our International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and SWIFT codes, please contact treasurer[at]british-caving...etc. Please read the Small Print below.

Please note that all bank handling and currency conversion fees must be paid at source, that is, "sender pays all fees". If you have a credit card it is usually far cheaper and far easier to pay by PayPal. It might also be cheaper to ask your bank to give you a cheque drawn on their UK branch than to pay by IBAN. And, lastly, please note that we can only accept IBAN payments if you live overseas.

  Bank Standing Orders
We can no longer accept payment by a bank standing order. Please read the Small Print below.

We can no longer accept payment by a bank standing order. This is because our membership fees may vary from year to year and, unlike a direct debit, we cannot vary the amount of the standing order once it has been set up. (Unfortunately, direct debits are too costly for a small organisation such as ours). Please note that - as announced several times since 2006 - any existing standing order you may have with BCRA no longer entitles you to any membership benefits. All such payments will be treated as donations to the Association. See BCRA Newsletter 9.
